Despite
coming across as a bigot, I have sniggered at Frank Skinner on occasion.
I therefore thought I'd give his autobiography a go. It was entertaining
for the first fifty or so pages (when I was trapped in the back of
a car going down the M6, so was faced with the alternative of cutting
my nails or looking at cows). I'm now up to page 116 and his boast
quota stands at:
- His 'significantly younger girlfriend' x 4
- Celebrity friends x 5
- £2 million house x 3
- His own talent x 18
I'd
like to recommend a book for Frank: The
Art of Happiness by the Dalai Lama. I've given up Frank's in favour
of The
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

If
you haven't read Atonement by Ian McEwan, buy
it. He has an amazing talent for getting in the heads of every
single character - at different stages of their lives - as the plot
weaves together. The book also has an amazingly researched account
of the WWII evacuation from Dunkirk. If you have read it and found
the war commentary interesting, you'll
probably like this too.

A weekend staying at my parents in Eccleshall with Rebecca
and Tim. We did a lot of dog walking and graveyard visiting. We also
went to see the motorcycle Grand Prix at Donnington. On Saturday we
bought a rubber pig for my parent's doberman / alsatian cross pooch
Tara and laughed at the looks she got walking through the centre of
Hanley with it in her mouth.

Al-Qaeda Hires Public-Relations Consultant Just
To Shoot Him
BAGHDAD—Al-Qaeda operative Mullah Hashem hired Elliot
Dobin, a consultant for the Boston public-relations firm Schneider
& Koff, for the sole purpose of murdering him, sources reported
Monday. "The al-Qaeda have taken such a beating in the press
that we figured they wanted to clean up their media image, so we sent
our best guy," firm partner Jerry Koff said. "But Elliot
had barely shaken everyone's hand when Hashem and his guards shoved
him up against the wall and shot him in the back of the head. He didn't
even get to show them his PowerPoint presentation." Bergman said
he'll confront Hashem about the incident as soon as he figures out
a way to spin Dobin's shooting into a positive.

Our office was burgled last night, the naughty men making
off with three laptops and a brand new G4. I'm thankful the rascals
kindly left my glow-in-the-dark Nikon mouse but mortally offended
that they didn't want to steal my personalised 'hunt' mousemat. It
could be even used as a tablemat for Christ's sake. Have burglars
no sense of stylish computer OR dining etiquette?

Last night I went to see New
Blood exhibition.
Considering they're a 'creative' organisation, D&AD could put
some thought into how the exhibitors are presented. It was like a
cattle market. Interesting to see the companies sponsoring the event
but I don't think they got a particularly good deal. Nothing more
imaginative than a logo plastered on a display board. I'd want my
money back.
